How much hair do we lose each day?

When is it time to start worrying about hair loss? Or, in other words, how much hair is it “normal” to lose a day? The answer comes from a recent American study: just ten, but up to fifty “fallouts” a day can be tolerated. As a matter of fact, at the end of its life cycle, hair falls out naturally. Researchers also suggest the scientific method for the assessment, the “60 second count”: you comb your hair for a minute, then count the hairs left on the comb.

Stress and hair loss

Stress, trauma, surgery and strong emotional tensions are common causes of hair loss. These events put the body in a state of alert, calling up an excess of adrenaline and other stress hormones. This situation triggers a chain reaction that involves androgens, the male hormones that cause alopecia.
